Method 1 to resolve QuickBooks Error H505: Create a new folder for a new company file

  • Create a new folder on the system. Now have the permission to exchange the files. 
  • Now copy the original company file.
  • In the newly created folder, paste the file in “Multi-User” mode.
  • Now open that file in the QB and check for the error.

Method 2 to resolve QuickBooks Error H505: Check Network 

  • Firewall settings:

  1. Consider the Firewall settings; hit the “Windows” option. 
  2. Visit the “Instrumental” panel.
  3. There, type “Firewall” in the search bar and hit “Enter”.
  4. Press “Enter”.  Then the “Advanced Settings” option.
  5. Opt “Outbound Rules” and go for “New Rule”
  6. Select “Ports” and click “Next”.
  7. Consider the following ports by clicking TPC:
  8. Hit “Next” and tap on the “Allow the Connection” option.
  9. Now in the field, add your name.
  10. The process is finished; now try to open the QuickBooks.
  • Turn-on Network Discovery:

  1. Open “Control Panel”.
  2. Select “System and Security”.
  3. Opt for the “Windows Firewall”.
  4. Look at the left of the window and permit the “Associate” feature. 
  5. Now opt for “Modification”.
  6. Select “Network Discovery”.
  7. Hit “OK”.
  • Know the name of your server

  1. Open “Run” by pressing “Windows Key + R”.
  2. Type “CMD” and hit “Enter”.
  3. Enter “config/all”.

  5. Look at the “Host Name” in the section “IP Configuration”.
  6. Review the name of the server on the right.

Solution 3 to resolve QuickBooks Error H505: Look at the hosting and services of QB

  • Verify hosting

    1. On every system, open QB.
    2. Now open “Utilities” by selecting the files.
    3. If the Host accesses the “Multi-User” on the list, then the system is not accessing/hosting the file of the company.
    4. Don’t change anything when you see that in the workstation, the host accesses the “Multi-User”.
    5. Whenever the ‘‘Stop Hosting the Multi-user Access’’ option is appeared on the screen then select that option.
    6. Repeat all the 1-3 steps on every computer.
  • Verify QuickBooks Services

    1. Firstly Press “Windows key + R”, “Run” window will be pop-ups. 
    2. On the “Run” window, type “MSC” and hit “Enter”.
    3. Now search for “Services.msc”  in the search bar.
    4. Now scroll up and down in search for the “QuickBooksDBXX” in the service window.
    5. Now “Double Tap” on the QB “DBXX service”. Ensure that the startup kind to be automatic and go for repair if “Standing” is started or already running. 
    6. After completion of the above-mentioned steps click on the “Recovery” tab. (If you see a failure while doing these steps, then restart the “DBXX” services.
    7. Now go for “QBCFMonitor” services. (Follow previous 1-6 steps). 
  1. Now open QB in the “Multi-User” mode and check whether the error is resolved or not.

Solution 4 to resolve QuickBooks Error H505: Edit/make changes in the Host File.

  1. At first, open the “Run” window.
  2. Now open the “Command Prompt” by typing “cmd” in the “Run” window.
  3. Now type carefully “ipconfig/all” and hit “Enter”.
  4. Enter the “IP Address” and the “Host” name. (Repeat 1-4 steps for all systems, if you are using “multi-user” mode.

Now go for editing, steps are mentioned here:

  1. To start this process, it is recommended to close the QB software.
  2. Now admire this address:              
  3. Click/tap on the “Host” file. (If not able to locate it, view hidden files).
  4. Open it by using “Notepad”.
  5. Add “System Name” and “IP Address”. (Use “Tab” instead of “Space Bar” while filling in the details).
  6. At last, save all the changes.
